New UK partnership supports young people on their career journeys
Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and the Baker Dearing Educational Trust join forces to accelerate opportunities for the next generation
Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and the Baker Dearing Educational Trust have entered into a new national partnership, creating opportunities for young people and harnessing talent by building their skills and confidence. The mutual agreement aims to boost access to technical education and tackle the shortage of skilled employees in the engineering and construction sectors.
The partnership was formalised in a signing ceremony at London Design & Engineering UTC on Wednesday, 19 November, as part of the trust’s #thinkUTC week.
Baker Dearing provides specialist science, technology and creative education to secondary school students across 44 University Technical Colleges (UTCs) in England.
The partnership establishes specific responsibilities for both organisations to further develop the UK pipeline of skilled young people ready for a career in STEM.
As partners, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure will:
- Support employment opportunities for young people
- Work in partnership with Baker Dearing to ensure UTC qualifications align with industry standards and future employability requirements
- Showcase careers in the engineering and construction sectors
- Strengthen relationships with UTCs close to Morgan Sindall Infrastructure projects throughout the UK
- Contribute to funds for equipment and uniforms to minimise financial barriers for students and to promote inclusion.
Simon Smith, Managing Director – Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, said:
“For over a decade, we have worked with UTCs to support young people in developing the skills and confidence to thrive in their future careers, while providing insight into civil engineering and the endless opportunities available.
“Our new partnership with the Baker Dearing Educational Trust will help to build on the strong foundations we have already created and develop a strong pipeline of future employees for the industry. We’re excited about what the future holds and the lasting impact it continues to bring to the communities in which we operate.”
Kate Ambrosi, Chief Executive of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, said:
“We are thrilled to be signing this partnership during #thinkUTC week, our annual celebration of the UTC programme and our amazing stakeholders, including Morgan Sindall Infrastructure.
“The collaboration between Baker Dearing and Morgan Sindall Infrastructure will be hugely beneficial to UTC students, staff, and the company itself, because it will strengthen the bridge allowing progression from school to the workplace.
“This fulfils one of Baker Dearing’s key objectives, to bridge the gap between employers and educators, by helping education settings deliver high-quality technical education with guidance from committed and expert employers, such as Morgan Sindall Infrastructure.
“Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is already a valued partner for multiple UTCs across England. Our national partnership will build on this, meaning thousands more young people will be better prepared for work in the growing civil engineering sector.
“We cannot wait to get this partnership started.”
Building on a decade-long relationship in North West England, the expansion to a national partnership signals the business’s commitment to developing the future UK workforce.
