STEM learning boost and new all‑weather sports facility set to support wellbeing for Blackford pupils and community

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is helping to fund a new Multi‑Use Games Area (MUGA) for Blackford Primary School, building on the success of a recent STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) engagement event delivered for every pupil.

As part of its work on the Harker 132kV Overhead Line project, the company held an interactive STEM session at the school recently. The event gave children the chance to explore engineering through hands‑on activities, sparking curiosity and building confidence in practical problem‑solving.

To continue supporting pupils’ development and wellbeing, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is now helping to fund a high‑quality, all‑weather MUGA. The facility will replace outdoor space that can only be used during the drier months of the year, providing a safe, year‑round area for sport, exercise, play and community events. This will deliver a significant boost to physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection for families across this rural area.

Peter Kirk, managing director – Energy at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, said:

Our work is about more than delivering infrastructure, it’s about connecting people and places, and leaving a positive, lasting social legacy for the communities we serve. Blackford Primary School is a vital part of this rural area, and we’re proud to support its pupils and local residents with facilities that will improve health, wellbeing, and social connections for years to come.

Lindsey Slater, head teacher at Blackford Primary School, said:

This investment is transformational for our school and the wider community. The new Multi Use Games Area will give our pupils and local families a safe, high-quality space for sports and play all year round. We’re incredibly grateful to Morgan Sindall Infrastructure for helping us realise a long-standing ambition for the Blackford Community.
