Morgan Sindall Infrastructure announces sector lead for defence
As demand for UK infrastructure renewal and development continues to grow across all sectors, the importance of building UK defence infrastructure is a national imperative to ensure a safer, stronger future for all. Morgan Sindall Infrastructure today announced a sector lead for its defence sector.
Gary Shuttleworth has been appointed to lead growth across Morgan Sindall Infrastructure’s defence sector, bringing more than 30 years’ senior leadership experience in defence, nuclear and across national infrastructure. His track record in strategic programme leadership, stakeholder engagement and delivering high-performance outcomes across complex national programmes underpins his appointment to this role.
Morgan Sindall Infrastructure has been delivering in the defence sector for over a decade, building on the long-standing history across all Morgan Sindall Group plc businesses. Throughout the last decade, the Infrastructure business has focused on maintaining a secure, resilient, and future-ready infrastructure capability. This includes working with BAE Systems at its Barrow-in-Furness site, as well as delivering for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation as part of the Clyde Commercial Framework, a 10-year framework that delivers new infrastructure assets and upgrades existing ones at the Naval base.

Commenting on the appointment, Simon Smith, managing director, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, said:
With the speed of change across the infrastructure sector, acting with pace and agility is key.
“The demand for UK Infrastructure is driving forward a shift in strategy, future planning, and the importance of developing a skilled workforce. Providing people with opportunities while also safeguarding future capability and capacity, in particular for the submarine enterprise.
“Across all our sectors, we take a similar approach, as it is key not only to supporting the customer, but ensuring we can look at the bigger picture and leave the lasting legacy we strive for.
Alongside this announcement, earlier in 2026, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure shared their partnership with Walking With The Wounded, a UK leading veterans’ charity that supports those who have served through mental health services, employment support, and wraparound care coordination programmes.
