Liverpool Street Station Roof Renewal
Renewal of Liverpool Street Station roof (LSSRR) to bring more natural light to the public areas, address the current water ingress problems and replace broken glass above the concourse.
Project overview
The roof at Liverpool Street Station has expired. The ‘old roof’ over platforms 1-10 allows little light onto the platforms. The ‘new roof’ over the public concourse is formed of glass panels, which are cracking when the structure expands and contracts.
The project will replace all of the Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) in the ‘old roof’ and will carry out spot replacement of the most severely damaged GWG Georgian Wire Glass (GWG) panels above the concourse. Most of the works are being completed in normal working hours thanks to the suspended scaffold crash deck.
Our teams have worked through a two stage contract. Initially, surveys and assessments of the existing station were carried out. This permitted both temporary and permanent works design to be completed for a scope within the Network Rail funding envelope.

Fun fact: A fish head found in the gutters of the station roof is currently at the Natural History Museum, being assessed before going on a digital display. The fish has been identified as a Sparidae.
