Glasgow Airport: Code E Capacity Stands
We delivered the construction of a new Code E stand to the west of the terminal.
The project transformed an existing taxi rank into high‑performance airside infrastructure, enabling the airport to expand stand capacity, improve operational flexibility, and enhance safety and security across the airfield.
The works were completed through winter conditions, requiring robust planning, resilient materials design, and close coordination with airside stakeholders.
Project overview
The project comprised a series of civil, structural and electrical engineering activities, including:
- 4,000m³ of PQ concrete laid over winter.
- Road realignments within the landside areas, and the phased provision of a new security post to replace the existing west gate, ensuring uninterrupted perimeter security and continuous airport protection.
- Major diversion of the airport’s main 11kV power supply.
- Extension to ‘November’ taxiway, incorporating new lead‑in lighting and transformers connected to the existing aeronautical ground lighting system.
- Re‑engineering of the materials design for the stand, to strengthen the sub‑base and mitigate historically poor ground conditions.
Engineering Innovation
A key value‑engineering outcome was the re‑design of the foul drainage system, which reduced client costs.
Project Outcomes
- Delivered on time and within budget
- Enhanced stand infrastructure enabling increased aircraft capacity
