Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Training Centre

We’re putting our commitment of developing overhead line workers into practice.

Project overview

Opened in February 2024, the Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Training Centre, located near Swynnerton in Staffordshire, has provided training to over 200 people, encompassing more than 20,000 training hours.

This number is set to rise significantly as more projects within our Energy team come online over the next few years. Delivering much needed upgrade and refurbishment works for our transmission customers including National Grid, SP Energy Networks and  SSEN.

At the Training Centre all overhead line trainees receive training on the basics needed to keep them safe:

  • Tower climbing
  • Maintaining equipment, including harnesses
  • Preparing their equipment
  • Ladder usage
  • Safely managing rescues and emergencies, including first aider training.

While also being equipped with the tools and skills needed to construct, install and replace overhead lines, and trained to use hardware like winches, puller tensioners and the Quad Catch Block system.

In October 2025, the Training Centre achieved Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) Approved Training Provider status which enables us to develop and deliver a broad suite of new and existing EUSR-approved courses. EUSR are currently supporting National Grid’s initiative to standardise competence requirements for Line Erectors and trainee lines people, helping to fill the skills qualification gap left by the absence of an industry-recognised standard.
