We will work with Enterprising Cumbria’s Careers Hub team and the county’s business community to drive forward careers and enterprise provision, as both a deliverer of high quality, progressive and impactful careers activities and as an ambassador for the Cornerstone Employer initiative.
Our Nuclear business and its social enterprise All Together Cumbria deliver a wide range of programmes and initiatives to develop a new generation of talent for the construction, engineering and nuclear sectors.
This includes a multi-award winning decade-long partnership with the Energy Coast University Technical College (UTC), in Lillyhall*. Representatives from both organisations mentor each other and share knowledge in a unique drive to develop essential skills to support young people on their career journeys.
A number of the nuclear team provide careers support to local schools as Enterprise Advisers, while hundreds of young people have benefited from our Apprenticeship Ready Programme, Future Pathways, work experience and an array of employer projects.
All Together Cumbria’s annual Festival of Work attracts hundreds of students each year to learn more about careers. The social enterprise broke new ground in 2024 by staging the first ever Quiet Festival of Work, designed for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) – part of a wider aim to support disadvantaged and under-represented young people with accessible careers guidance.
Andy Dodds, Social Enterprise Manager – Nuclear, says: “We’re delighted to become a Cornerstone Employer. It’s superb recognition for what we’re doing to ensure young people, regardless of their background or circumstances have the best possible chance to access career opportunities and achieve their ambitions.
“Being part of Cumbria’s Cornerstone Employer community means we can continue our work to forge closer links between industry and education and work collaboratively to ensure young people have all the support they need to succeed and flourish. At the end of the day, they hold the key to Cumbria’s future prosperity.”
We join a select group of eight employers in Cumbria united by the goal of providing world class careers education. They will join the likes of BAE Systems, Sellafield Limited, Oxley Group, Balfour Beatty, Cumbria Tourism and the Brathay Trust in supporting Cumbria Careers Hub in shaping and delivering the county’s careers strategy.
Cath Dutton, Strategic Careers Lead from Enterprising Cumbria, says: “I’m delighted to welcome Morgan Sindall Infrastructure as a Cornerstone Employer in Cumbria. Their work to break down barriers for young people facing barriers when it comes to accessing careers advice and support is a fantastic example of leading from the front and epitomises the trailblazing nature of what this initiative is all about.
“Our Cornerstone Employers represent most the key industry sectors in Cumbria and they play a vital role in supporting our careers strategy. They are actively engaged, have strong networks and have the vision and capacity to try new things to help young people secure the careers they want. Morgan Sindall Infrastructure will bring new impetus and new ideas to the table and be of immense value to the strong community we’re building in Cumbria.”
