Intro

This is a rare opportunity to make a real difference in your community whilst launching your career in a collaborative and inclusive organisation – one of the most successful within UK Infrastructure.

We deliver some of the UK’s most complex and critical infrastructure across core sectors of energy, water, nuclear, highways and rail for public and private customers. Working on projects and long-term frameworks, we believe in connecting people, places and communities through innovative and responsible infrastructure.

The opportunity

We have a fantastic vacancy for a Social Value Apprentice within our Rail business, where we are making a difference by helping the UK to achieve net zero carbon emissions whilst ensuring critical rail infrastructure is continuously improved and developed.  We put our customers first and challenge the status quo by finding the most efficient solutions to the challenges faced.

We pride ourselves on being a responsible business, ensuring that we leave a long lasting, positive impact wherever we work.  Our social value teams work with a range of stakeholders including schools, colleges, universities, local community groups and with our clients (organisations like Network Rail and TFL) to deliver a range of innovative projects, funding mechanisms and interventions to support the communities we work in.    This could range from creating experience opportunities for people who find it hard to access work, to promoting STEM careers in local schools, all the way through to funding local foodbanks and grass roots initiatives.

You will work at the heart of this team, discovering the full breadth of social value activity.  You’ll support the development of our Social Value strategies, plan and co-ordinate the delivery of key activities, research and undertake needs analysis and help us measure how we do.

In addition to the extensive mentoring and support we’ll give you on-the-job, you’ll also benefit from off-the-job training via our partner provider, developing your knowledge and skills further and getting the opportunity to network with other professionals in your field whilst gaining a level 4 apprenticeship qualification.  You can find out more about the course you will undertake here:- https://www.ldnapprenticeships.com/programme-l4-crs

About you

It goes without saying that we’re looking for somebody who can clearly demonstrate their interest in, and passion for, working in social value.  However, we’re also looking for an individual who:

  • Is comfortable producing, using and analysing data and can present it in a logical way
  • Is a good communicator (both written and oral) and comfortable delivering presentations
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and collaborating with a range of different people
  • Is well organised, and confident juggling different tasks and projects
  • Has had some exposure to a construction or engineering environment (although this would be an added bonus, and is not essential).

Ideally you will possess GCSEs (or equivalent) in math and English at grade 4/C or above, and additionally be educated to a level 3 standard (e.g. A-level, Btec etc.). Alternatively,  you may have already developed a range of transferable skills in the workplace and be looking for a change of direction.
