About the Apprenticeship
Our Level 6 Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering offers you a comprehensive, structured program designed to launch your career in the construction industry. Through a mix of hands-on experience and technical training, you’ll develop skills essential for civil engineering while gaining valuable, real-world insight into our projects.
You will be encouraged and supported to join a professional engineering institution and be allocated a scheme mentor to help you in becoming professionally registered with the Engineering Council in line with The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC).

In your role as an apprentice, you’ll be part of a dedicated team delivering impactful projects with a strong focus on safety, security, and sustainability. Whether we’re working on major nuclear scheme, framework or a standalone project, our emphasis is on responsible engineering and continuous innovation, making a tangible difference for our clients, communities, and the environment.
What will you be doing?
As an apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience through:
- Supporting design: Preparing and modifying diagrams, drawings, and models according to industry codes and standards,
- Using digital tools: In line with ISO19650, using BIM, and other digital technologies to visualise and present design concepts and construction sequencing,
- Prioritising safety and compliance: Supporting in the development and application of safe work systems and adhering to regulations and standards,
- Championing sustainability: Incorporating sustainable practices to support net-zero goals and align with UN Sustainable Development Goals,
- Contributing to quality and project goals: Assisting in the planning and monitoring of projects to meet specifications, budgets, and deadlines,
- Collaborating effectively: Working with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and project success.
What qualifications do I require?
To be eligible, you’ll need:
Academic Qualifications:
- Three A Levels, including Maths (A-D) and preferably Physics,
- Five GCSEs (grades 9-4 / A*-C), including Maths (preferably grade 6), English, and a Science, or a Level 3 Apprenticeship.
In addition:
- Ability to travel to remote locations.
You will need the ability to:
- Work well within clear guidelines and produce required results within own role. Demonstrates enthusiasm for the job.
- Assess simple data within company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate positively with clarity and understanding, presenting information in a structured way and demonstrates confidence when communicating in own subject.
- Show a positive attitude to change and capacity to accept change.
- Contribute to the overall team objectives, understanding how to be part of a team.
- Accept authority and the need for leadership; has the capacity to assume some position of influence within the team.
- Work effectively within time and budget constraints set by others.
- Discuss and agree priorities.
- Be willing to develop and accept new skills; and respond within tested frameworks of development to identify own needs; using personal experiences to build own skills.
- Have awareness on concepts and benefits of collaboration.
