About the Apprenticeship

Our structured Engineering Apprentice Programme provides you with opportunities for both personal development and technical training to support your early career in the construction engineering industry. As part of the team from day one, you will access structured training and practical experience to support our projects and with a view to becoming a registered professional engineer after the completion of your apprenticeship, ready to map out your personal next steps towards a long and rewarding career.

You will be encouraged and supported to join a professional engineering institution and be allocated a scheme mentor to help you in becoming professionally registered with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer in line with The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC).

You would be joining an extensive and exciting portfolio of projects and growth within nuclear. We are currently delivering some of the nuclear industries most complex and challenging projects.

What will you be doing as an Electro-Mechanical Engineer?

To support the engineering and operational requirements of modern integrated process plant and services from design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, installation and maintenance to replacement, commissioning, and decommissioning of nuclear plant and supporting infrastructure.

Roles include Project Engineer, Technical Engineer, Construction Engineer, Commissioning Engineer.

In your daily work, you will interact with the many stakeholders in any engineering project, and may be a key figure in integrating with different teams. Within our organisation you will interact with the engineering manager, engineering team members, technical specialists, laboratory and site-based technicians, senior managers, plus other internal teams such as, commercial, quality control, project management, construction management, health and safety, etc. You may also interact directly with external stakeholders such as the customer or client, as well as suppliers and service providers.

What qualifications and attributes are required?

3 A-Levels grades C or above or equivalent (one being Maths or Maths equivalent).

You will need the ability to:

  • Work well within clear guidelines and produce required results within own role. Demonstrates enthusiasm for the job.
  • Assess simple data within company guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Communicate positively with clarity and understanding, presenting information in a structured way and demonstrates confidence when communicating in own subject.
  • Show a positive attitude to change and capacity to accept change.
  • Contribute to the overall team objectives, understanding how to be part of a team.
  • Accept authority and the need for leadership; has the capacity to assume some position of influence within the team.
  • Work effectively within time and budget constraints set by others.
  • Discuss and agree priorities.
  • Be willing to develop and accept new skills; and respond within tested frameworks of development to identify own needs; using personal experiences to build own skills.
  • Have awareness on concepts and benefits of collaboration.
