About the Apprenticeship

Our structured Apprentice Programme provides you with opportunities for both personal development and technical training to support your early career in the construction engineering industry. As part of the team from day one, you will access structured training and practical experience to support our projects and with a view to becoming a registered professional engineer after the completion of your apprenticeship, ready to map out your personal next steps towards a long and rewarding career.

What will you be doing?

A colleague at this level will take responsibility for delivering specific tasks, goals, and objectives. As part of the Apprenticeship they will work under direction with day-to-day support from colleagues and mentors. They are expected to work proactively and deliver defined tasks to an industry standard. They will manage their own tasks within the context of a project or company objective

They will assist with the preparation of Project Controls data covering Planning, Cost Management, Change Control,  Risk Management and Reporting for a range of Projects and support the development of future processes and tools.  They will be supervised by members of the central ISA Performance Management Group to ensure they gain appropriate experience across all Project Control disciplines.

Gaining “on the job” experience through supporting the Performance Management Group across all areas of Project Controls providing functional support to projects across the ISA.

Assisting in ensuring Project Controls data is accurate and provided in an efficient and effective manner in line with the identified reporting drumbeat.

You would be joining an extensive and exciting portfolio of projects and growth within nuclear. We are currently delivering some of the nuclear industries most complex and challenging projects.

What will you be doing as a project controls professional apprentice?

In your daily work, you will interact with the many stakeholders and may be a key figure in integrating with different teams. Within our organisation you will interact with managers, team members, and senior managers, plus other internal teams such as, commercial, quality control, project management, construction management, health and safety, etc. You may also interact directly with external stakeholders such as the customer or client, as well as suppliers and service providers. You will also:

-             To support the PMG in the successful delivery of project controls data across the ISA

-             To support PMG in providing Planning services to projects across the ISA ensuring projects are planned effectively and that plans are maintained through the life of the ISA projects through appropriate change control.

-             To support the projects in the identification and management of project delivery risks and the associated mitigation actions.

-             To help in the development of processes and reports which provide effective management information to projects and functions within ISA.

-             To maintain excellent working relationships with all stakeholders across ISA.

-             Work to continuously improve standards of performance.

-             To work with the Performance Management Group staff to ensure the PMG provide an exceptional level of service to projects and functions across the ISA.

-             To play a role in ensuring all projects are driven to provide the best value solutions, and delivered on time and within budgets.

What qualifications do I require?

3 A-Levels grades C or above or equivalent (one being Maths or Maths equivalent)

You will need the ability to:

  • Rational and systematic analysis of situation to enable decisions on more varied issues.
  • Question evidence to evaluate issues.
  • Communicate positively with clarity and understanding.

  • Contribute to the overall team objectives and understand how to be part of a team.

  • Assist the project team in creating a plan for a familiar project or process.
  • Understand what resources are required.
  • Demonstrate diverse skills and methods to deliver results.
  • Make an objective and structured case with pros and cons and understand the need to give, take and defend a position.
  • Can respond well within tested frameworks of development to identify own needs.
  • Use personal experience to build own skills.
