The Role:
- We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Permit Engineer to join our construction team. As a Permit Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe execution of tasks on projects by managing, auditing, and monitoring the permit to work system.
- This role will cover electrical distribution across several existing facilities on site. The works shall be delivered in a highly regulated environment, ensuring compliance with Sellafield procedures, project collaborative management plans and local site arrangements.
Responsibilities:
- Support delivery of the Electrical Distribution Network Upgrade Project and sub-projects being undertaken to support this overall project.
- Supporting site delivery teams, liaising with design and the network operator.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date register of permit acceptors and isolating authorities. Facilitate the issuing of permits to authorised personnel and ensure the proper documentation of permit-related information while upholding compliance with both company and client procedures and processes.
- Regularly audit and monitor the MSA electrical safety rules, permit to work system, to ensure strict compliance with company policies, as well as regulatory and client requirements.
- Work closely with the Electrical Duty Holder and other members of the Electrical Safety team.
- Partake in audits to evaluate the implementation of the safe system of work. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify potential hazards, assess risk levels, and ensure that all tasks are being executed in accordance with approved permits.
- Work as part of the Project team on large projects in a complex, highly regulated Nuclear environment to ensure that all work activities are conducted in accordance with the approved permits. Provide guidance and support to address any non-compliance issues promptly.
- To have worked within and to have a conversant understanding of safe systems of work involving the PSSR (2000) and PSER (2016) regulations for pressure systems.
To thrive in the role you will need:
- Should have a background in Electrical Engineering and a working appreciation of the other major disciplines. It would be a benefit to have a working level knowledge of Design and working with Designers.
- Typically hold an advanced vocational qualification with extensive practical experience.
- To have had training and experience as working as an AP / SAP Electrical (if the training has lapsed, then this will be given to right candidate).
- Experience working in a team of site-based engineers, supervisors, and craftsperson’s in delivery of works.
- In-depth knowledge of permit to work systems, safety regulations, and industry best practices (preferable in the Nuclear industry).
- Good understanding of BS7671 and HSE regulatory requirements.
- Excellent organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in using permit management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Additional relevant certifications e.g. Health and Safety Certification (NEBOSH/IOSH) Would be advantageous.
- Previous experience delivering a successful permit management system and compliance oversight within a complex environment.
